BISD Wings Program focuses on K-8 children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and supports their needs in the classroom. The Wings Program has been very successful for the last 3 years and currently serves 57 children with ASD. The Wings Program coordinator has successfully created strategies for each of the children in the program and has helped them transition through their school days so they can learn and progress.
The Wings Program coordinator has also taught classroom teachers to be more effective and has taught parents strategies to use with their children. As a result of the Wings Program, all K-8 school age children have a better learning environment and are more successful. Parents, Teachers and administrators alike are praising the effects of the Wings Program. In school year 2009-10, the program was initiated and 50% funded by private donations and by the Preston Family foundation.
