BSF Creates the Vicky Marsing Innovation Fund

It’s been eight years since Vicky Marsing joined the Bainbridge Schools Foundation as the Executive Director.  In this short period of time, Vicky has inspired the Bainbridge Island Community to give over $7 million to ensure our students are engaged, challenged, and inspired.

As we prepare to thank her and bid her a fond farewell, the Board of Directors has established The Vicky Marsing Innovation Fund to ensure our schools are on the leading edge among public schools in Washington.

Details about the Fund: In honor of Vicky and her passion for innovation, the Fund will support new ideas not traditionally considered (or funded) in public schools.  Examples of past innovative projects include 90 minutes of additional math for all K-5 students, robotics, coding, and STEM Camp.

2015-16 projects include:
• K-5 Design and Engineering courses ($250,000)
• Expanding Edible Education, including composting, school gardens, and school lunches ($20,000)
• New Ideas (~$60,000)

Looking ahead, the Fund could be used for a number of exciting projects that might include expanding the K-12 school day to include more electives, elementary world languages, high school orchestra, and a high school career and college center.  As a result, our students will have access to exciting learning opportunities that stimulate their minds and ensure they love learning at every grade level.
