Welcome to the Bainbridge Schools Foundation web site. Our organization exists to help bridge the gap between what the district receives to fund education and what it needs to adequately fund its programs to achieve educational excellence.

BSF Board voted to add $50,000 to Save our Teacher Fund today and add $100k to our committment of $250,000 for funding for 2009-2010.

Last weekend was a huge success and raised lots of money for the Save OUR Teachers campaign. Friday night's car wash raised $1650, there was a 6th grade dance at Sakai that raised $335 and the Garage Sale at Wilkes on Saturday raised over $22,000! Donations in the door from the weekend and today brought our total to $35,000. A huge thank you goes out to the hundreds of people who helped to make all of these events a success. The Rally of more than 100 students, dogs, parents, teachers and community members was lots of fun and had great coverage from the Seattle Times, the BI Review and Kitsap Sun and BITV. Patrick Sheldon and Guy Sidora did an outstanding job to rally the troups and raise awareness for our cause!

BISD budget deficit for the 2009-2010 school year is $2.096M. Many things have been identified to save this money: Teachers and support staff will be eliminated. Fees will increase. A two bell bus system will be implemented. In a united front, The Schools Foundation and the PTO's are working together to solve this problem. Please consider making a donation of any kind to help SAVE OUR TEACHERS and do so by June 30th, so we can hire back the teachers that recently received pink notices.

Many parents have been asking specifically what is going to happen to class size if we do not raise enough money to recall teachers and if we do raise money in what priority will teachers be reinstated. At this time, we are still awaiting enrollment information from the schools. Preliminary information is that we expect students moving from kindergarten to 1st grade to see the biggest class size increase. Kindergarten today has 19 students per class and those students will move to 1st grade next year with class sizes of 24. Kindergarten next year will probably have 21 students per class, an increase of 2 over this year. Grades 2-4 will increase 1 student in some sections to 25. Grades 5-6 will have 27-28 students. Some classes at the High School will have 30 to as many as 36! Nursing will be cut by one full time person across 3 schools. Counseling will be cut by 1.3 FTE over 3 schools. These are preliminary numbers and we will update this website when we get better information. Together, we can recall teachers! Please donate!
